OBX GO FAR is a non-profit organization that holds two annual fundraiser 5k events and two seasonal 6-8 week training programs to bring awareness and prevention to the childhood obesity epidemic. The fundraiser events are held Thanksgiving and Easter weekend. The training program is offered in the fall and spring to elementary and middle school age groups in Dare County to safely train for a 5k or fun run while learning; health concepts, nutrition, and character building.

“It was a great experience for our daughter Emma (1st grade NHES) and an exciting morning.”
“Nico has a T-shirt that says “Indoor Person” with a picture of a kid playing video games. That was true before the Spring 2014 GO-FAR season started at KHES.”
“From the first day of practice, Nico had nothing but good things to say. He was happy and getting healthy. Each day when I picked him up he excitedly told me how far they had run. The best day of practice though was the day a week and a half prior to the end of the season 5K race when he received a medal, and was the only child to do so, from the mentors for his hard work and dedication. Nico was proud of himself, and I so proud I was pushed to tears.”
I have been a participant in OBX GO FAR every season and look forward to every fall and spring. GO FAR helps me achieve my goals.
“I think one of the greatest impacts that GO FAR has is that it is a program that can be done by any student in the school.”
“It’s not a competitive sport and kids can set personal goals and work at it until they reach their one mile or 3.1 miles. No matter how much they run, they get a sense of accomplishment. There is nothing better than seeing a child who has worked hard for six to eight weeks receive his or her medal. The smiles are endless.”
